Menno Simons

Educational film about Dutch religious reformer Menno Simons.
Filmed with Canon 7D.

Menno Simons was born in 1496 in Witmarsum, in the Dutch province of Friesland. He became vicar in Pingjum at the age of twenty-eight and eight years later was promoted to priest in Witmarsum.
Menno is the one true Dutch religious reformer. A Dutchman who rocked the cradle of a worldwide faith fellowship, his particular achievement was to assume leadership and give form to Anabaptism.

From the very beginning of their existence, anabaptists have been on the move, searching for a safe place to practice their faith. Many migrated via Poland to Russia. Their progeny moved later to North and South America. Other groups from Switzerland journeyed via southern Germany and the Netherlands to North America. Best-known for their traditional way of life are the Amish. In the twentieth century, missionaries initiated new faith communities all over the world, especially in Africa and southern Asia. By 2011 it is estimated that there are 1.6 million Anabaptists and Mennonites spread throughout the world.
